Welcome to Adaptica Support, we are here to help you. In this section you can find FAQ , Manuals, Guides and hints for 2WIN-S plus products. Please complete the form in the Contact tab of this page or e-mail support@adaptica.com with the serial number of your device, the nature of your problem and a description of the test performed.

I. Setup

What are the ideal lighting conditions?

You can use 2WIN-S plus in any light and environmental condition.

Which position should the patient be in?

The only necessary condition is that the patient is looking inside 2WIN-S plus and has its eyes open. Therefore, the patient can be sitting, standing or lying thanks to the extreme mobility 2WIN-S plus has.

Is the tablet included?

Yes, 2WIN-S plus is provided with a dedicated Remote Console, which allows to control the device, store and review patient exams and connect to the EMR System.

II. The Device

What is 2WIN-S plus? What principle is it based on?

2WIN-S plus is a device that binocularly tests sight impairments, in normal vision conditions. The binocular function makes it more relaxing, non-irritating and non-invasive for the patient during testing. Its measurement is based on eccentric photorefraction: this technique uses infrared light projected across the patient’s pupils onto the retina. Depending on the impairment, the reflected light forms a specific increase in luminosity inside the pupil. The intensity of this increase is used by the device to determine refraction, fixation anomalies and anterior segment anomalies, thanks to the A.I. based Anterior Segment Screening function.

Are results enough for lens prescription?

No, subjectivity through a phoropter or test glasses is always required (for subjective measurements, use VisionFit SC). However, 2WIN-S plus allows simultaneous binocular refraction during observation in a free space, allowing objective measurement and avoiding the tube effect.

What is anterior segment screening?

Anterior Segment Screening is an A.I. based function which runs on Adaptica Cloud. The pupils’ images acquired by 2WIN-S plus during the measurement are instantly processed by the A.I. algorithm and, if any anomaly of the anterior segment is detected, a warning is given to the operator with the indication of the eye, if right and/or left.

Are A.I. results enough for diagnosis?

No, a complete examination from an Eye Specialist is always required. However, 2WIN-S plus gives the Doctor, through a quick screening, a great starting point for the complete examination.

Do I need internet connection for anterior segment screening function?

Yes, internet connection is required to process data with Anterior Segment Screening function. Refraction and fixation anomalies detection, instead, works also offline.

Are 2WIN-S plus data saved on the cloud?

Only anonymous pupils’ images, needed to get Anterior Segment Screening response, are stored on Adaptica Cloud. No personal nor sensible data is collected.

How can I update the device?

When connected to a WIFI network, 2WIN-S plus receives available updates through OTA feature. Updates are also available for download at the product page on the website in the section “Software Download”.

Can I use an SD card?

Of course, any MicroSD card can be used to save 2WIN-S plus data. Please note that examination reports will be saved in 2WIN-S plus Remote Console.

Can I print using any wifi/bluetooth printer?

Yes, you can print from the Remote Console on any printer compatible with Android 8.0. In order to configure the printer, follow the instruction of your printer provider or of the Android operative system.

Can I connect 2WIN-S plus to an EMR system?

Yes, 2WIN-S plus provides EMR integration through shared folder. An EMR interface is required in order to exchange patient data and measurement/screening results between your EMR system and 2WIN-S plus. Please refer to 2WIN-S plus Operator Manual for the EMR interface specifications.

How long does the battery last?

2WIN-S plus battery lasts up to 2 days without having to recharge.

How long can the device remain on standby?

2WIN-S plus does not go in standby.

Can I customize the exam report?

Yes, 2WIN-S plus report footer is customizable. You can personalize the report directly from 2WIN-S plus Remote Console.

What are the ideal pupil dimensions?

Pupils are intrinsically big due to light conditions but a size from 4mm to 11mm will work perfectly with 2WIN-S plus. Please refer to the Operator Manual for further instructions.

Can different measurements be found in the same person with 2WIN-S plus, even with the same reliability?

Measurements are very stable due to the controlled lighting conditions. However, the human optical system is another extremely important variable and is continually changing. A person may have different refraction in the morning and in the evening, including diopters of difference.

What influence does accommodation have?

Measuring at a distance of 1m, accommodation certainly plays a part. This will clearly be more evident in children than in adults. 2WIN-S plus has only a slight accommodation stimulus, leading to partial accommodation in children (the ‘fast’ kind that is normally not corrected with glasses). In adults it is so slight that it can be ignored.

Can measurements be taken during cycloplegia?

Yes, but with 2WIN-S plus there’s no need for drops. By selecting the correct age range the device will perform a statistical correction of the accommodative factor, allowing the Doctor to delegate the measurement.

What happens if the refractive defect is over +-7D?

The device will measure up to 15 Diopters, but in this case it will give only spherical equivalent.

The algorithm automatically decides which is the most reliable measurement to give. It may happen that measurement in range will result in N.A.. This means that the conditions of a good measurement are not reached.

How can one avoid the effect of accommodation?

Inside the instrument the patient can see 3 luminous dots. Ask the patient to look at these points.

Can children who suffer from nystagmus be measured?

Of course, as long as pupil movement is not excessive, and the subject is not clearly cross-eyed.

Can children or adults affected by eye pathologies be measured?

In case of ocular pathologies or previous surgeries the device will not measure refraction. In such cases, thanks to the implementation of Artificial Intelligence, 2WIN-S plus will detect possible anomalies in the anterior segment.

Can someone who is excessively cross-eyed be measured?

To detect the patient’s refraction, you must take monocular measurements. Thanks to the Corneal Reflexes function available in 2WIN-S plus, you can evaluate phorias and tropias through a user-friendly guided procedure.

Can measurements be taken in the case of loss of an eye?

Of course  - in monocular mode.
