Eyes of the World

Eyes of the world is a non-profit organization that helps visually impaired people without economic resources living in under-developed countries. The goals are that these people receive qualified ophthalmologic care from their local health services and that conditions are created to help reduce pathological ocular incidence in each region. It also works at increasing public awareness in our social environment concerning the basic healthcare deficiencies in those places.

With this project, we have helped a lot of people. For example in Belgium we helped who could’t effort glasses, selling them at a cost of 20€. Moreover we helped about 350.000 people worldwide from South America to Africa, from Asia to Europe by giving them glasses. Now we are starting to collect money for a mobile eyeclinic to help people in Madagascar.

Everyone has the right to a good sight.

Stephanie Kirk Arnold, Doc. Robert Arnold ‘s daughter-in-law, discussed the CR strabismus function of Adaptica’s 2WIN photoscreener compared to Retinomax photoscreener at AAPOS in San Diego on March 28, 2019.

CR- App allows you to measure hetero-tropias and/or hetero-phorias. It compares the position of the corneal reflexes in three different measurements (the first binocular, the second and the third monocular under an Infrared Occluder). The Occluder is a black handheld filter which allows the 2WIN infrared rays to pass through while blocking all visible light.

She compared the use of 2WIN Infrared Occluder with CR-App and the Retinomax Cover Test according to the AAPOS 2013 guidelines. The study was performed on 436 patients, aged from 3 months to 66 years old, 25% of them had development delays .

2WIN CR measuraments correlated highly with Retinomax Cover Test for intermittent and constant strabismus.

Dr. Robert Arnold is a pediatric ophthalmologist working in Alaska and committed to the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigation. In fact, he is part of the Alaska Blind Child Discovery, a cooperative, charitable research project to provide valid image interpretation and parental notification for volunteer charitable screening in urban and rural Alaska.

In this video he explains how CR-App inside 2WIN works: this App allows you to measure hetero-tropias and / or hetero-phorias. It compares the position of the corneal reflexes in three different measurements (the first binocular, the second and the third monocular under an infrared occluder). A black handheld filter is included and allows the 2WIN infrared rays to pass through while blocking all visible light.

The 1 st International Adaptica’s Academy was a 2-days training that took place the 17 th and 18 th of January addressed to all the Sales & Marketing forces of our local distributors. The purpose of training was to provide all the commercial, technical and marketing tools to optimize the promotion of our products worldwide.

The distributors had the opportunity to share the experiences with colleagues from different countries and markets, try the devices and get to know our projects worldwide with NGO, KOL and different societies of the field.

The Academy was also an opportunity for the distributors to know each other during the spare moments like the welcome aperitif, the dinner and the final tour to Specola the old astronomical observatory, here in Padova.

Preventing poor vision in Macedonia

At November 2018 – After an eight hour day at Sistina Ophthalmology Clinic in Macedonia’s capital Skopje, Dr. Biljana Kostovska volunteers as a Lions Club member conducting eye screenings. She is one of the most renowned ophthalmologists in Macedonia and a leader among 15 doctors volunteering to conduct free eye screening for children between 3-8 years of age.

Ophthalmologists in Macedonia have been urging parents to get their children tested as early as three years of age to detect early symptoms and prevent severe vision problems later on. Over the past three years, Dr. Kostovska and her colleagues have screened over 27,575 young children and referred an average of 18 percent for additional eye examinations.

These efforts are one result of a partnership between USAID, the Lions Club International Foundation, and the Southeast European University (SEEU) in Skopje, Macedonia aimed at increasing the quality and availability of education services for students with visual impairments.

USAID, United States Agency for International Development, is an independent agency of the United States federal government that is primarily responsible for administering civilian foreign aid and development assistance.

Kaleidos – What does Mr Van Pottelbergh think

During the the OB Congress in Bruxelles, thanks to our distributor Rockmed Opto Belux, we had the opportunity to have KALEIDOS tested by Mr Van Pottelbergh, founder of Eyes for the World Foundation.

Hereafter his kind review:

“I had the opportunity to test the Kaleidos of Adaptica during the three-day Phamanology exhibition in Brussels. This device is extremely user-friendly, easy and quick to set up. In addition, the design of this device is an additional asset because everyone wants to look in this “viewmaster”. This gives an extra nice and positive feeling for those who want to undergo a test. During these days I did about a hundred screenings. Of course, after the objective test with the Kaleidos, we performed a subjective test. The advantage with the Kaleidos is that the patient only has to look in the device for a few seconds and that you immediately have a result. I do not know any other device where it goes so smoothly. Of course the results are the most important. In all cases we received a correct indication about the patient’s problems; myopia, hypermetropia or astigmatism. The values of astigmatism were correct in most cases, sometimes slightly overcorrected, but the axis direction was correct in almost all cases. Since I carry out a lot of mobile tests, I am a fan of this device and I will work with the Kaleidos in the future. For me this is the first device where user-friendliness, compactness and reliability are present. Highly recommended for the eye specialist”
