2WIN-S Support

Welcome to Adaptica Support, we are here to help you. In this section you can find FAQ , Manuals, Guides and hints for 2WIN-S products. Please complete the form in the Contact tab of this page or e-mail support@adaptica.com with the serial number of your device, the nature of your problem and a description of the test performed.

I. Setup

What are the ideal lighting conditions?

You can use 2WIN-S in any light conditions.

Can the device be used outdoors?

Yes, there aren't any problems.

Which position should the patient be in?

The only necessary condition is that the user is looking inside the 2WIN-S and had their eyes open.

II. The Device

What is the 2WIN-S? What principle is it based on?

2WIN-S is a device that contains the 2WIN which is a binocular refractometer that works at 1 m from the patient’s eyes in normal vision conditions. It therefore measures refraction in both eyes at the same time. The binocular function of the device makes it more relaxing, non-irritating and non-invasive for the patient during testing. The 2WIN measurement is based on eccentric photorefraction. This technique uses infrared light projected across the patient’s pupils onto the retina. Depending on the refractive error, the reflected light forms a specific increase in luminosity inside the pupil. The spherical reaction is calculated according to the intensity of this increase. The 2WIN-S acts as a darkroom for the 2WIN for more precise measurements in any lighting situation.

Is 2WIN-S a portable autorefractomer? Should the results match those of a traditional AR?

No, the 2WIN-S is a stand-alone vision screener. However, it could be compared to a traditional AR. The two devices have two different approaches but the results should match (2WIN-S is binocular, measures directly at 1m distance, in more physiologically normal conditions and allows for accommodation).

Are results enough for lens prescription?

No, subjectivity through a phoropter or test glasses is always required (for subjective measurements, use VisionFit SC). However, the 2WIN-S allows simultaneous binocular refraction during observation in a free space, allowing objective measurement and avoiding the tube effect.

Can I use the device when it is connected to the computer via a USB cable?

The 2WIN device is inside the 2WIN-S and it is always connected to the 2WIN-S via a USB cable.

How can I update the device and/or install optional applications?

Updates and applications are sent in files and activation codes by e-mail and can be transferred easily to the device’s memory card, in a guided step-by-step process. From version 5.3 there is the OTA update feature.

Can I use an SD card larger than 4GB?

Of course, any MicroSD card can be used to save 2WIN-S data.

Can I print using any portable WI-FI printer?

Yes, you can print from the tablet on any printer connected and configured for the tablet. In order to configure the printer, follow the instruction of your printer provider or of the Android/iOS operative system.

How long does the battery last?

The battery lasts up to 2 days without having to recharge.

How long can the device remain on standby?

The machine does not go in standby.

Initial screen does not appear on the display of the device.

  • Possible cause: The battery is completely discharged.
  • Solution: Charge the battery.

On the display an error message appears.

  • Possible cause: Electronic malfunctioning.
  • Solution: Contact service center, mentioning serial number.

On the display an error message appears.

  • Possible causse: Software malfunctioning.
  • Solution: Contact service center, mentioning serial number and message error.

A warning – “Hint check Gaze”- appears on the display.

  • Possible cause: The patient is not looking at the machine.
  • Solution:
    • If collaborative ask he/she to look at the machine
    • If not collaborative activate the interactivity features.

A warning – “Hint check Gaze”- appears on the display

  • Possible cause: There may be a strabismus problem.
  • Solution: It is suggested to measure eyes singularly in two different measurements.

A warning – “Possible strong Anisocoria” appears on the display

  • Possible cause: The two eyes have very different pupil diameters (that means anisocoria)
  • Solution: It is suggested to measure eyes singularly in two different measurements.

The measurement never ended correctly or prematurely quit while the pupils are detected.

  • Possible cause: There may be an hardware problem.
  • Solution: Run the Self Test diagnostic through the MENU and contact service.

What are the ideal pupil dimensions?

Pupils are intrinsically big due to light conditions. You can also reduce pupil size. Look at the manual for instructions.

Can different measurements be found in the same person with 2WIN-S, even with the same reliability?

The measurements are much more stable due to the controlled lighting conditions compared to a measurement with just the 2WIN. However, the human optical system is another extremely important variable and is continually changing. A person may have different refraction in the morning and in the evening, including diopters of difference.

What influence does accommodation have?

Measuring at a distance of 1m, accommodation certainly plays a part. This will clearly be more evident in children than in adults. 2WIN-S has only a slight accommodation stimulus, leading to partial accommodation in children (the ‘fast’ kind that is normally not corrected with glasses). In adults it is so slight that it can be ignored.

Can measurements be taken during cycloplegia?

Yes. It is better not to wait for the pupil to dilate completely in order to avoid the diameter of the pupil being excessive, leading to aberrations or preventing measurements from being taken.

What happens if the refractive defect is over +-7D?

The device will measure up to 15 Diopters, but in this case it will give only spherical equivalent.

The algorithm automatically decides which is the most reliable measurement to give. It may happen that measurement in range will result in n.a.. This means that the conditions of a good measurement are not reached.

How can one avoid the effect of accommodation?

Inside the instrument the patient can see 3 luminous dots. Ask the patient to look at these points.

Can the device be used with patients who wear glasses or contact lenses?

The patient’s contact lenses or glasses will not affect the measurement if they can fit the aperture.

Can children who suffer from nystagmus be measured?

Of course, as long as pupil movement is not excessive and the subject is not clearly cross-eyed.

Can children or adults affected by cataracts be measured?

Depending on the degree of opacity of the crystalline lens, the device may give a degree of reliability that is higher or lower, or may not give any result at all.

Can someone who is excessively cross-eyed be measured?

No. You must take monocular measurements, focusing one eye at a time and covering the other and by asking the patient to look towards the centre of the 2WIN-S.

Can measurements be taken in the case of loss of an eye?

Of course  - in monocular mode.
