ESCRS 2019

ESCRS, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, was founded in 1991 to promote education and research in the field of implant and refractive surgery and to advance and promote the study and practice of ophthalmology. ESCRS seeks to promote and support research in the field of intraocular lens implantation and refractive surgery and the dissemination of the useful results thereof. ESCRS has over 7,500 members from 130 countries world-wide.

Every year, two times a year, an exhibition is held in a different city. This year the 37 th  Congress will take place between the 14-18 September 2019 in Pavilion 7, Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, Paris.
For Adaptica, ESCRS is the most important Exhibition of the year and this time we decided to think big.

This year we will celebrate the 10 years anniversary of our company and, with the occasion, we are proud to share with you many news, our ultimate new design, a big reveal and many surprises.

A new product will be released, a dedicated space will be installed to show the best potentialities of this device. You will have the possibilities to try it in the smallest refraction room you have ever seen. No spoilers, you will discover everything at ESCRS.

We will wait you at our Booth, where we will arrange three workshops about our products and our company. The speakers will be three selected and special KOL.
During the first workshop that will be held on the 14 th of September, our beloved Dr. Mario Angi, Ophthalmologist and President of CMB Italia Onlus will give a lecture about the evolution of the refractive devices “From “Red Reflex” to Videorefraction”.
The 15 th of September we will have the pleasure to host Mr. Dennis Norris, OneSight Senior Director of Global Programming who will talk about the use of our equipment on the field during OneSight’s projects around the world.
The last day of the workshops, the 16 th of September our guest will be Dr. Konstantinos Kakoulidis, M.D., PhD and FEBO of He Vision Group who will have a talk about our Versatile refraction system.

After the workshops you will be our guests for a sparkling aperitif at our booth.

AMGO Project is a visual prevention project of Amblyopia coordinated at national level by the Institute of the blind “Francesco Cavazza ONLUS” based in Bologna and aimed at children in their earliest childhood. In 2013 it obtained the patronage of the Ministry of Health.

Amblyopia, also known as “lazy eye”, consists of a reduced development of visual function in one or both eyes due to a visual defect present in early childhood, during which time the development and maturation of the visual system takes place. If not treated promptly, this condition may result in a permanent defect.

The most common causes of amblyopia are strabismus and incorrect refractive defects (myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism). The risk of developing amblyopia due to untreated eye disease is present in the first 4-5 years of life, i.e. during and within the plastic period of development of the visual system. The diagnosis must therefore take place as early as possible, during the period in which the visual system is still susceptible to modifications and improvements if treated correctly.

In Italy, according to statistics on the statistics, amblyopia affects from 1.6% to 3.6% of the population. Since amblyopia can only be cured at an early age, early diagnosis and early treatment are the ideal objectives to be pursued.

Screening week at Sant’Alessio

Amblyopia, also known as “lazy eye”, is curable. However, to solve the problem, the visual defect must be ascertained at an early age. For this reason, the Sant’Alessio Regional Center in Rome, has decided to join the campaign “AMGO-To me the eyes”.

Amblyopia

On Saturday 23rd and Saturday 30th March, the IPAB has made its structure available for children aged between 12 and 30 months. From 9am to 6pm, parents who wanted to make their children visited, had the opportunity to get a free screening to identify symptoms of amblyopia, or lazy eye syndrome.

The importance of an early diagnosis

“The therapy for the correction of amblyopia – explains Antonio Organtini, general manager of the Sant’Alessio Regional Center – is all the more effective the earlier it begins; once they reach 6-7 years of age the visual system is developed, with minimal margins of response to the occlusive treatment, which is a simple solution with greater efficacy only if applied early “.

Useful information

How to book an appointment? To participate in the screening it is necessary to choose a date and book the visit by calling the dedicated number 06.51.30.18.538 (Monday to Friday 9/15). Or you can write an email to address protocollo@santalessio.org.

Not only screening

“Our orthoptists and our ophthalmologists – states Antonio Organtini – are available to families not only to make the free screening, but also to raise awareness of this visual condition that should never be overlooked”.

Last April 15, 2019, Local Medical Technology students from Cavite State University used our Kaleidos and performed refractions to 70 adult & child patients plus around 40 students. These students helped organize this humanitarian mission for their local barangay people in Indang, Cavite, in the southern part of Luzon and approximately a three hour drive outside of Manila.

Kaleidos is the best tool for them to use for these screenings as it’s portable, easy to use, can be used in any setting, and can give you results in seconds without needing a skilled operator.

Mass screening in Calbayog City – Philippines

Towards the end of April 2019, partnered with local Rotary Club of Calbayog, local optometrist and Borough Center for Sight in coordination with Dr. Jerome Sarmiento, Medical Director of Cebu Branch which opened their Cebu clinic on May 2019 was performed a mass screening for 900 local patients from Calbayog City, Eastern Samar which is part of region 8 Visayas area and has the 3rd most largest area of mass land in the Philippines. Everybody was amazed to use Kaleidos and they highly appreciated the accuracy, simplicity and mobility of this device. They are strongly recommended it for their clinic together with the VisionFit SC.

This is the largest group of patients that we have analyzed using our Kaleidos in Philippines so far. The Eye care specialists and the patient as well  found very exiting the way the screening process rolled out. We examined and refracted patients who have not experience in Eye refraction check-up and this is the part of the efficiency, mobility, time saving and unique way the kalends performs.
